Frequently Asked Questions
What is my upcoming book about?
My debut novel is a contemporary love story set in Australia as the Afghanistan conflict comes to a close. An archivist rebuilding her life draws an army officer back into the memories he’s sworn to bury. As their quiet attachment grows, shared truths risk uncovering far more than either intended.
Themes: ‘found family’, redemption and returning to what really matters. Through a cast of warm, funny characters, the novel explores the importance of sharing our stories - the good, the bad, and the beautiful- in order to heal from trauma.
Content awareness: Tasteful spice, as they say in romance. The story mentions off-page veteran suicide, PTSD, childhood physical abuse and off-page death.
Those are important issues. Do you know what you’re talking about?
I write from personal experience, as well as doing extensive research. My editor is exacting, and insisted that I do my homework. During the writing, I spoke to a brilliant archivist who works with the Defence community. A couple of generous service members (current and former), gave their time to read and provide feedback, and boy, did I get my butt handed to me on some factual errors, and some cringeworthy assumptions I had made about the army!
As a former history teacher and a librarian, I appreciate the value of fact checking and having a wide range of perspectives from which to draw. That said, I am not a member of the veteran community, although I have worked with soldiers in my library career. I’m not, and never would claim to be, an expert in these areas. Children’s safety, veteran welfare, suicide (including pre- and post service) are way too important not to talk about, but must be handled with sensitivity and humility. I hope I have done so but I am always open to feedback.
Where can I get a copy of your book?
My current manuscript is in the developmental editing stage, and won’t be ready to publish this year. However, I will be posting some shorter content on here soon, so check back in…
Do you have a newsletter?
Not yet! Our inboxes are full enough. Once I get closer to publishing I will create regular updates. If you’d like to connect, please reach out via Insta.
Do you work with other writers?
I have a couple of critique partners I work with regularly. I love contemporary romance, monster romance, romantic comedy and romantic tropes in the Science Fiction genre. I have a particular fascination for the inner workings of the Man In Love (as seen through the eyes of a woman of course!).
